Industrial Monk is Frederico Rogelio Vogelstein and Takahshed Summoberg Kawai.
After working on several independent movies together as engineer /mixer and synthesis / sound creator,
Vogelstein and Kawai teamed up in 1997 to create the first sounds of Monk. In fact,
it was during a Thai food lunch in 1997 that the name Industrial Monk was born!
The first I-M release “Magnificat” received many positive reviews despite initial criticism from colleague and
mastering engineer A. Yoshida who declared the record to be “shit!”
“Prophecies” I-M’s second release took a few years and lumps to create and eventually release.
The endless learning curve and addition of new technologies continues to shape the third release into a truly new direction.
Frederico (aka Frederick Vogler), a veteran sound designer who works for the Los Angeles Philharmonic
at both the new Walt Disney Concert Hall and the fabulous Hollywood Bowl,
has recorded numerous records for commercial release and worked on many Hollywood films
including Sister Act I & II, Leap of Faith and The Preacher’s Wife.
Vogler’s main goal in life is “to maintain creative independence!”
Takashed (aka Takashi Kawai), a native of Japan who immigrated to the US to escape
the confines of a strict Japanese social environment, was a student of the USC film-composing program.
Many of Takashi’s friends - young film and television composers
have used his musical talents and training in their own projects. In 1988,
rock n’ roll band Kamikazi, featuring Takashi on drums, played at Madam Wong’s West in Los Angeles.
Each day Takashi strives to put dinner in his Shih Tzu, Asia’s bowl.
